America’s homeless veterans have served in World War II, the Korean War, Cold War, Vietnam War, Grenada, Panama, Lebanon, Persian Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq, and the military’s anti-drug cultivation efforts in South America. Nearly half of homeless veterans served during the Vietnam era.
About 1.4 million other veterans are considered at risk of homelessness due to poverty, lack of support networks, and dismal living conditions in overcrowded or substandard housing. Two-thirds served our country for at least three years, and one-third were stationed in a war zone.
One of the most successful homeless programs for Veterans is the Veterans Village of San Diego. A tent city that offers temporary, transitional, and permanent housing for homeless Vets! For more information, just click (or tap) on the image below:
Interfaith Community Services was founded in 1979 by a handful of diverse faith communities to address the needs of low-income, homeless and under-served people in North San Diego County. Separately, these congregations were providing relief to people in need, but by creating Interfaith they were able to collaborate to make a bigger impact on the needs of the people in our community.
As participation grew, Interfaith evolved into a broad continuum of programs and services that provide the tools and resources people in crisis need to stabilize and rebuild their lives. These programs are organized into five main areas:
Under these program clusters are numerous services covering a broad spectrum of support. Programs are designed to overlap so that each client has access to as many resources as necessary for his or her individual situation.
Interfaith offers programs through North San Diego County, from the coastal City of Oceanside, to the inland communities south and east of our Escondido headquarters. With more than 300 member faith centers and 130 dedicated staff, Interfaith serviced more than 16,000 unique individuals last year alone!
