Family and child homelessness surfaced as a significant social problem in the United States in the mid-1980s. Since then, the number of homeless families with children has steadily increased, now constituting 37% of the overall homeless population.
The vast majority of homeless families are composed of single mothers with two young children, often under the age of six. They tend to be residentially unstable, moving frequently and often living in substandard housing and dangerous neighborhoods.
Information about child homelessness on this site is from America’s Youngest Outcasts: A Report Card on Child Homelessness. (2014). Waltham, Massachusetts: The National Center on Family Homelessness at American Institutes for Research.
“Children experiencing homelessness are among the most invisible and neglected individuals in our nation. Despite their ever-growing number, homeless children have no voice and no constituency. Without a bed to call their own, they have lost safety, privacy, and the comforts of home, as well as friends, pets, possessions, reassuring routines, and community. These losses combine to create a life-altering experience that inflicts profound and lasting scars.”

“By partnering with local Organic Farmers and ensuring fresh foods are prepared properly (either juiced, blended, steamed, or healthy sauteed), we can significantly increase the nutrition that a child receives.”
Food insecurity is harmful to all people, but it is particularly devastating to children. Proper nutrition is critical to a child’s development. Not having enough of the right kinds of food can have serious implications for a child’s physical and mental health development, academic achievement and future economic prosperity.
Unfortunately, households with children are purchasing the cheapest food available (even if they knew it isn't the healthiest option), in an effort to provide enough food for their household.
Our Mission is to provide easy access to the resources that are available to food insecure families, and to partner with Organic farmers and the very best child hunger charities in order to make nutritious and delicious food available to as many children as possible.
Green smoothies offer pure nutrition. The amount of vitamins you’ll get depends on the fruits and vegetables you choose for the smoothie. However, most fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins A and C. Guava is also high in folate, while avocados provide high amounts of potassium and magnesium.
To avoid unnecessary nutrient loss, cooking each food properly is absolutely essential. Five extra minutes of cooking can make an enormous difference in the nutritional quality of a meal. In addition, every food is unique and should be treated that way when it comes to cooking temperatures and times. For example, to preserve its nutrients, spinach should not be boiled for more than one minute. Kale, on the other hand, needs to steam for 5 minutes for maximum nutrient availability.
Carrot is one of the most healing foods that provides the finest and highest quality in nutrients, especially from its juice. It is an excellent source of pro-vitamin A, vitamins C, D, E, K, B1 and B6. It is rich with biotin, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, organic sodium and some trace minerals.
